13-Day Munich Itinerary for a Couple
Day 1: Arrival in Munich and Exploring the City
- Flight from Cologne to Munich (approx. 1 h 15 min). We recommend taking the S-Bahn directly from the airport to the city centre (approx. 40 min)
- Check-in at a mid-range hotel near Marienplatz (e.g. in the Altstadt or Maxvorstadt areas)
- Walk around Marienplatz, watch the Neues Rathaus glockenspiel and sample delicacies at Viktualienmarkt
- Dinner at a romantic Bavarian restaurant, such as Spatenhaus an der Oper
- Tip: Pack comfortable walking shoes – Munich is a city for walkers
Day 2: Munich’s Historic City Centre
- Morning coffee and pastries at Café Luitpold
- Visit Frauenkirche, the Residenz Palace and Hofgarten park

- Train to Salzburg (approx. 1.5 h)
- Visit the old town, Mozart’s birthplace and the fortress

- Tip: Buy a Bayern Ticket if you’re making several train journeys – it’s a more economical option
Day 10: Hellabrunn Zoo or Starnberger See

- Walking, boating or swimming (in summer) and lunch by the lake

- Tip: In summer pack swimwear and a towel – many lakes have clean swimming water

Day 13: Return to Cologne/Bonn Airport

- S-Bahn to the airport and flight back to Cologne/Bonn
